BUXALTM 2000 CALCIUM
“THE COMPLETE FOLIAR CALCIUM”
How does BuxalTM Calcium effect plant cells?
It has been proven by researchers (Evans & Hollander) that Calcium is essential for the stability of biomembranes. It has been determined that Calcium ions strongly bind to victorin (a toxin produced by Helminthosporium victoria) and they suggest that victorin can remove Calcium from membranes to maintain membrane stability in the presence of victorin. However, in susceptible tissue, victorin removes a substantial proportion of the Calcium present. As a consequence, victorin prevents the normal functioning of the cell membrane.
Calcium polymalacturanales are required in the middle lamella for cell stability. Parasitic fungi and bacteria invade plant tissue by producing extra cellular pectolytic enzymes such as polyalacturonase, which dissolves the middle lamella. Researchers have found that the activity of these enzymes are inhibited by Calcium. |
